Tumescent liposuction, a procedure performed under local anesthesia is more effective, safer and less painful than traditional liposuction which needs general anesthesia. Tumescent liposuction has a quicker recovery time. It is performed as an outpatient procedure. It avoids the significant high risks of complications and expense associated with general anesthesia where patients are put to sleep.
Tumescent anesthesia is one the most substantial areas of progress in the field of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, with advantages that by far outnumber the few disadvantages. Tumescent liposuction recovery is typically quick; most people find that they can return to work and their normal activities within 1-2 days. After the swelling goes down, you will be able to start seeing the results of the procedure.
The vast majority of patients have said that liposuction by the tumescent technique is a dramatically less painful experience than was liposuction under general anesthesia. Infiltrating the local anesthesia by tumescent technique is typically associated with minimal discomfort.

Procedures Offered at Glendale Whole Health
Dr. Speller is pleased to partner with Dr. Ashu Garg, who brings his significant experience of performing tumescent liposuction to the patients of Glendalel Whole Health. Dr. Garg offers the following procedures:
WHAT IS LIPO360, AND HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM TRADITIONAL LIPOSUCTION?
Lipo360 is a liposuction technique that removes fat from the circumference of your entire midsection. It shapes your midriff the entire way around, including the upper and lower abdomen, the back, and the sides (flanks), unlike traditional liposuction procedures, which target just the abdomen’s stubborn fat deposits.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Lipo360 is a minimally invasive liposuction technique performed under local anesthesia. All the extra fat is removed from around the middle of the body, and the abdomen is contoured using a skin tightening treatment to remove the excess skin, providing you a transformed body.
WHO CAN GO FOR LIPO 360 PROCEDURE?
Your surgeon will examine you to determine whether you are a good candidate for the lipo360 procedure. If your BMI is over 40, you may not benefit a lot from lipo360, and you may be advised to reach a target weight before opting for this procedure.
HOW FAST CAN I SEE THE RESULTS?
When you opt for Lipo360, the recovery is fast with minimal downtime. You can return to your everyday life and resume your daily activities in just a few days. However, this may vary from person to person as the recovery time depends on many factors. To achieve the best results, it is advisable to follow your post-op instructions properly.
BENEFITS OF LIPO THERAPY
The benefits of Lipo360 lie in the results, which speak for themselves. While traditional liposuction focuses mainly on removing the maximum amount of fat from stubborn areas, Lipo360 is more concerned about providing you a contoured look overall. It employs circumferential liposuction with skin tightening to reshape your body proportionately. You can get a toned body and curvier silhouette in no time!
Back and Bra Fat
What can I do about back and bra fat?
The back is considered two areas; the upper back and middle back. Undesirable fat in the middle back appears to be squeezed by bra straps. This can be a source of self-consciousness for many women. Stubborn fat deposits can negatively affect a person’s appearance and self-confidence. Liposuction removes the dense layer of adipose tissue and restores your sexy and trim appearance.
The lower portion of the back is a separate area called the waist/love handles. Often, patients choose to address the three areas together. The arms can be addressed at the same time slimming the entire upper half of your body.
Neck and Jowl Liposuction
Can I get rid of the saggy appearance in my neck and jowls?
While diet and exercise are effective in combating the accumulation of fat, some areas of the body do not respond as others, such as the neck and chin areas.
Many patients considering for a lower face-lift surgery would get more natural results, would avoid surgical scars and can save a lot of money if they get liposuction first. Liposuction alone, initially, can bring desired neck contours and improve cosmetic outcomes. It may tighten the whole face. Liposuction can defer a need for a facelift, and compliment the final outcome of a facelift should you decide to proceed with one.
Is neck and Jowl liposuction a safe procedure?
The neck fat mainly lies superficially under the skin. Beneath this fat layer there is a muscle layer known as platysma which acts as a barrier between the fat we remove through liposuction and the vital structures of the neck. Neck liposuction is a very safe procedure with satisfactory results.
Is there special care aftercare after neck and Jowl treatment?
Use of an elastic, compressive garment application is a must immediately following the neck liposuction procedure. Although the neck recovers faster than any other areas following liposuction, a compression garment helps to reduce swelling and bruising and hasten recovery. There is less skin redundancy and looseness with the use of an elastic compression garment worn firmly as recovery and healing occurs.
What are the advantages of neck contouring?
Neck contouring creates a firmer, smoother and more refined appearance to the neck and chin. Even without making any other changes to the face, improving a thick, wrinkled or sagging neck can dramatically improve a one’s appearance, helping a patient look years younger or even as though he or she has lost weight. Neck contouring can also help restore balance to facial features by providing a better defined jawline that frames the rest of the face.
What do you recommend for my upper arms?
Arms having nice contour and tone can make you feel attractive and confident. When hitting the gym, eating right, and going for runs aren’t always giving you the results you are looking for, then modern liposuction based procedures can help you.
Arm liposuction is targeted fat removal of the shoulder and triceps area. Our doctors are able to remove pockets of unwanted fat that will not respond to diet and exercise. The arm liposuction will result in more muscular-looking and toned upper arms. While liposuction will not add to muscle tone, it will help the muscle definition of the shoulders and triceps stand out more.
Lower Extremities Liposuction
In general, females are more interested in thigh liposuction than men. This is because the hormones in the female body cause deposits of fat around the thighs, buttocks and pelvis. The excess fat in men is usually stored in their abdominal area, not their thighs.
Liposuction can effectively address your cosmetic concerns around the knees, medial thighs, lateral thighs, ankles and the calves.
Can you help me with my leg concerns?
Hips and Outer Thighs
When the excess fat is located on the outer thighs, it is referred to as saddle bags. It gives the appearance of a low center of gravity, causing the legs to look shorter then they actually are. When liposuction is performed on the outer thighs, this effect is eliminated. The end result is the restoration of well-contoured and proportionate thighs.
Another common concern is the stubborn fat that can cause the thighs to rub against one another. The chafing result from this unwanted fat, can make it uncomfortable to exercise. If you have enough tissue elasticity, you can get wonderful results with targeted liposuction, and likely help eliminate a crepey or loose appearance. Possible combination with other skin tightening procedures like laser, or radio frequency may accentuate the cosmetic outcomes including cellulite reduction and skin tightening that are not achievable with lipo alone.
What is recovery like after leg procedures?
Patients will be given a compression garment to be worn around the thighs and/or knees all day and night for two weeks following your procedure. This is to help reduce swelling and help your body form to its newly contoured shape. There is very little downtime required, but patients should walk immediately after their procedure.
Routine walking helps speed up healing as it promotes better blood flow. You can see results within a few weeks, and continuous improvement over the following months. Liposuction of the thighs and knees leaves patients with slim, contoured legs.
Do you do "Tummy tuck"?
A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, removes excess fat and loose skin and restores weakened muscles to create a smoother and toned abdominal contour. It’s not the same as liposuction, although a simultaneous liposuction procedure greatly facilitates a tummy tuck procedure. Tummy tuck results are usually long lasting if you maintain a stable weight.
Types of tummy tucks:
Complete abdominoplasty/Full abdominoplasty:- The surgeon will usually cut your abdominal skin from hip bone to hip bone (under bikini) and then contour the skin, tissue, and tighten abdominal muscles as needed*. The surgery will involve moving your belly button, and you may need drainage tubes under your skin for a few days.
Partial or mini abdominoplasty:- Mini-abdominoplasties are often done on people whose fat deposits are located below the navel and/or the loose skin is mainly prominent below the belly button. During this procedure, the surgeon most likely will not move your belly button.
An Avelar abdominoplasty is a tummy tuck following liposuction. This procedure is intended to remove excess external abdominal fat as well as redundant lax abdominal skin, ultimately resulting in slimmer, toned, and smooth cosmetic appearance.
*The need for abdominal muscle tightening will be decided based on the patient’s clinical assessment.
What is Gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is the over development of male breast tissue and is usually idiopathic in nature, but can occur as a result of hormone imbalance, obesity, genetic predisposition or taking certain pharmaceuticals. It is often resistant to diet and exercise because, besides excess fat, many men sometimes also have excess glandular tissue in the breasts that becomes noticeable even as they slim down. It is normal for males in puberty to have some swelling and tenderness of the breasts and nipple area in response to the hormonal changes of the body during this time. Breast tissue in a young man that lasts for more than a year or past the age of 18 should be evaluated.
Can you explain me the gynecomastia procedure?
Male chest liposuction surgery removes the excess fat as well as glandular tissue to create a flat, firm, more masculine appearance to the chest. Liposuction is completed using Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) technology. This will remove much of the unwanted fatty tissue. If gynecomastia is mainly due to excess fat, then liposuction alone should be a self sufficient treatment. If there is any additional hard glandular tissue in the breast, and it feels like rubber, then a small surgery is recommended to be done simultaneously.
What about recovery from a gynecomastia procedure?
Most patients can return to a desk or office job in as little as 2-3 days, but if your job requires heavy lifting or aggressive upper body movement, you may be out for 4-6 weeks. After the first week, patients will be able to resume all core and lower body exercise activities. Upper body specific exercises such as pushups, pullups, bench press, etc. should be avoided for about 4-6 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Why I should choose liposuction?
Liposuction is a procedure to eliminate unwanted fat from areas of the body that are resistant to diet and exercise.
You may lose more weight through diet and exercise or by bariatric procedures, such as gastric bypass surgery, than you will with liposuction. However, liposuction has the advantage of not only removing resistant and unwanted fat, but it also enhances your cosmetic appearance resulting in the great body shape you deserve.
What is going to happen to the treated body areas during liposuction?
Liposuction significantly reduces the number of fat cells in a specific area with ultimate reduction in fat volume and improved appearance of that area. The resulting new contour is generally permanent — as long as you keep your weight stable after the procedure.
What should I expect during and immediately after the procedure?
Liposuction under tumescent anesthesia is usually a well-tolerated procedure. Some pain, swelling and bruising after the procedure is expected. Prescribed medication to help control the pain, and antibiotics to reduce the risk of infection are recommended.
After the procedure, the surgeon may leave some of your incisions open to promote fluid drainage. For best cosmetic results, all lipo procedures require you to wear compression garments for a few weeks, which also help reduce swelling, encourage a quick recovery and result in beautiful final outcomes.
When can I resume work?
Most of the patients return to work within the next few days and some, even the very next day!
When can I resume my workout routine?
You can resume exercise gradually and as tolerated over the next few days and weeks. Patients usually report soreness and mild pain so pace yourself according to your tolerance.
Immediately following the procedure, you may be able to appreciate some instantaneous changes in your appearance. The treated area usually looks less bulky; this is just the first view of your new body shape! After liposuction, swelling typically subsides over a period of a few weeks. Within several months, expect the treated area to have the more defined shape, like you always dreamed.
Liposuction results are permanent as long as you maintain your weight.
