O-Shot FAQs

What is the O-Shot (Orgasm Shot)?

The O-Shot takes advantage of the same regenerative healing factors as the Vampire Facial (made famous by Kim Kardashian). During an O-Shot procedure, your blood is taken and spun in a centrifuge to extract PRP, which is then injected back into the vagina and clitoris. PRP contains growth and healing factors which trigger the body’s natural ability to heal and promotes collagen production, which amplifies and rejuvenates the orgasm-producing vaginal tissue and clitoris. The results include smoother, tighter skin of the vagina, improved sensation of the vagina and clitoris, improved sexual response and reduction of urinary incontinence.

What causes pelvic and sexual health issues?

Gravity. Pregnancy. Aging. Hormonal changes. Strenuous exercise. Weight fluctuations. Life.

All of these have a way of wearing our bodies down and some of the effects take a toll on our lives, sex lives and how we feel about ourselves as women. Vaginal dryness, mild urinary stress incontinence, painful intercourse and loss of vaginal tightness are natural processes in our bodies.

They’re all uncomfortable. They can stop us from having pleasurable sex. They can cause us to feel anxious when we're exercising because we're concerned about urine leakage. They can cause us to stop exercising. They can cause us to stop having sex.  They can negatively impact our lives and our love relationships.

What is a PRP blood injection? Where is the O-Shot injected?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a part of our own blood that’s rich in proteins and healing factors. These little powerhouses are responsible for the blood’s ability to heal wounds. The O-Shot (aka the Orgasm Shot) is a method of using PRP, which is injected into the clitoris and into the vaginal wall. Just as it can repair the skin after injury, it can also be effectively injected back into the body to restore skin in many areas, including the vagina and clitoris. Additionally, the platelets used during the O-Shot procedure naturally attract your own stem cells to the injected area. As a result, the clitoris and vagina can generate healthier and more functional tissue.

What are PRP injections used for?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments have been used to treat everything from arthritis to nerve injuries to tendonitis. Introduced into the world in 1970, PRP became regularly used in medical treatments in the late 1980s. PRP in sports medicine as well as the world of orthopedics is common. Many professional athletes have been fans of this injury-healing treatment including Kobe Bryant, Tiger Woods and Maria Sharapova.

When was PRP Therapy first used for vaginal rejuvenation?

In 2011, Dr. Charles Runels, MD, registered and trademarked the Vampire Facial procedure, introducing PRP to the world of cosmetics. When platelet-rich plasma is microneedled into the face (i.e., the Vampire Facial), stem cells multiply and grow younger tissue, rejuvenating the skin of the face. After having much success with the Vampire Facial, Dr. Runels pioneered the O-Shot (aka Orgasm Shot), inserting PRP into the clitoris and the vaginal wall. Since then, he has introduced other PRP therapies, including the Vampire BreastLift, Vampire Hair Therapy, the Vampire WingLift and the Priapus Shot (P-Shot) for men. Click for Charles Runels’ biography.

What is the PRP in the O-Shot? How do plasma injections work?

Platelet Rich Plasma contains growth factors that are packed with proteins and healing factors. Just as it can repair the skin from injury, PRP can effectively be used to restore skin on many areas of the body. Specifically, PRP works as follows:

  • Stem cells respond to micro-injury on the skin by going into repair mode, stimulating growth factors and cells to generate new tissue.
  • New blood vessels form (or “neovascularization”), which increases the blood flow to the vagina and clitoris.
  • Cellular turnover, collagen and elastin production are enhanced.

What O-Shot results can I expect? How long do the results of the O-Shot last?

The O-Shot stimulates several different growth factors. After a PRP blood injection, the stem cells and tissues begin to grow and regenerate, which increases tissue rejuvenation and blood flow in the vaginal walls and the clitoris. It is possible to notice results anywhere from immediately to several weeks after the procedure, however it may take up to three months to develop the full effects. Results can include better sexual functioning, a younger appearance, increased sexual arousal, as well as relief from stress incontinence and other conditions. The effect can last for up to a year or longer, but will vary from person to person.

O-Shot Pain / Side Effects: Does the O-Shot hurt?

Most women describe a slight pinching feeling, but consider the procedure to be relatively pain-free. As with any procedure, pain tolerances are individual. However, most women report that any mild discomfort they experience is worth the results they receive from the O-Shot.

What happens during the O-Shot procedure?

The procedure is actually quite simple. It takes about 30 minutes, the bulk of time being preparation before the procedure.  First, the doctor applies numbing medication.  Then there will be a blood draw from your arm. The platelet rich plasma is extracted from the blood using an FDA-cleared PRP centrifuge machine to separate the richest growth factors. Using a tiny, super-fine needle, these healing factors are injected into the clitoris and the front wall of the vagina. Most women describe only a slight pinching feeling, but consider the procedure to be essentially pain-free.

Is the O-Shot safe? What is the recovery time?

Because the O-Shot is minimally invasive, it is considered a much safer alternative to plastic surgery with no downtime following treatment. Women can return to normal activity, including sex, immediately after the O-Shot. Some women experience minimal bleeding immediately following PRP vaginal rejuvenation. Additionally, the numbing medication may take several hours to wear off.

How long do the results of the O-Shot last? How often do I get injections? Is it permanent?

No, the O-Shot is not permanent. Though results can last up to 2 years, we typically recommend a yearly session in order to maintain O-Shot results. However, each person’s anatomy and thus, results vary.

Am I an ideal candidate?

Women going through menopause, as well as women who experience painful sex, lubrication problems or mild stress incontinence are ideal candidates for this procedure.

It is also an excellent treatment for women who simply wish to enhance their sex lives and sexual response.

What conditions are helped by the O-Shot?

  • Decreased libido (sex drive)
  • Stress urinary incontinence
  • Dryness (with resulting painful intercourse) from menopause or from cancer treatment
  • Decreased ability to orgasm
  • Pain with intercourse (dyspareunia)
  • Urge urinary incontinence
  • Lichen sclerosus
  • Lichen planus
  • Chronic pain from trauma from child birth (e.g., episiotomy scars)
  • Chronic pain from mesh (midurethral sling)
  • Chronic interstitial cystitis

The O-Shot sounds great!  Will it be enough to fix all my sexual problems?

There are many factors that contribute to sexual dysfunction, such as plaque buildup in penile or clitoral blood vessels, unbalanced or low hormones, depression/anxiety, diseases affecting the genitals such as Peyronie’s Disease and lichen sclerosus, tobacco use and more.  The O-Shot is very effective as a standalone procedure, but can be administered in conjunction with another PRP therapy called the Vampire WingLift, the Alma Duo Shock Wave Therapy, bio-identical hormones (BHRT), medications, supplements, peptides, tobacco cessation and healthy weight management to optimize results.

How much does the O-Shot cost?

The O-Shot costs between $1500-$1800. The price depends on the condition of the skin of your vulva and vagina to begin with, as well as your treatment goals.

Combining the O-Shot with Alma Duo™ Shockwave therapy and bio-identical hormone replacement (BHRT) will provide ultimate results and the best value!

We also offer the Trifecta Package For Women, which includes the O-Shot, Vampire Facial or FaceLIft and Vampire BreastLift, all performed during the same session at a reduced package price.
