PRP Procedures

What is platelet-rich plasma (PRP)?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative medicine treatment that uses a patient's own blood to heal damaged tissue or to enhance certain areas.  The procedure involves extracting a small amount of a patient's own blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets and then injecting this concentrated plasma back into the patient's body at the area of interest.

Platelets are a component of blood known for their role in clotting. They also contain growth factors and over 30 bioactive proteins that play a crucial role in tissue repair and regeneration. By concentrating these platelets and injecting them into damaged tissues, PRP therapy aims to accelerate the healing process and promote tissue regeneration.

PRP therapy is used in various medical fields including orthopedics, sports medicine, dermatology and cosmetic surgery. It's commonly used to treat conditions such as tendon injuries, ligament sprains, osteoarthritis, chronic wounds and hair loss. It is also used in several procedures to enhance sexual wellness, as well as various cosmetic applications.

The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis and separated into two steps: preparing the PRP for injection and injecting the PRP into the affected area.

Are there risks or side effects of undergoing PRP procedures?

Since you are receiving part of your own blood which has been processed in an FDA-cleared PRP, sterile, closed system centrifuge machine to separate the richest growth factors, the risks of a reaction are extremely low.  As with any injection, there’s a possibility of bruising, swelling or slight soreness. This usually dissipates after a few days.  The procedure are minimally invasion with no downtown

When will I see the results of my PRP procedures?

This varies a bit depending on the procedure.*  However, typically, the PRP that is injected (or microneedled into your skin, in the case of the Vampire Facial®) is completely absorbed in 1-3 days.  In 2-3 weeks, the body begins the process of repair and rejuvenation, with an increase in collagen and elastin growth (and of adipose tissue in the case of the Vampire BreastLift).  The process will continue, with maximum benefits seen between 3-4 months after the procedure.
